Description This a 2 day course on Tuesday 9th and Wednesday 10th January on Basic Neurosurgical Approaches. The practical sessions are operating on thiel embalmed cadavers. Surgical procedures -Craniotomy and Posterior spinal decompression and fusion. Specialist equipment is provided by Stryker for the 2 days

  Additional specialised  instrumentation provided by Stryker.

· The course is free for Yorkshire and Humber regional trainees. Priority will be given to regional trainees.

· Please read the dissecting room regulations before attending the course.

· Surgical gowns, over shoes, facemasks and gloves are provided for the lab. If you wish to wear theatre blues please bring your own and return to your theatres.

The anatomy lab is on Level 9, Worsley Building, University of Leeds

Aims

To ensure the trainees are comfortable with the anatomy and surgical approaches prior to starting as registrars.

Objectives

Understanding of the anatomy, role of surgery and the pathologies that can be treated.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, trainees should be able to start the exposure for any cranial or spinal surgery.
