Description This is 1 day cadaveric course aimed at regional vascular surgeons as part of the Vascular Surgery Trainee 3 year cycle ISCP teaching. To develop the surgical skills required by a vascular surgeon for operating below the clavicle into the upper limb.

Please read the dissection room regulations prior to attending the course. You will be asked to sign that you have read the regulations on the day at registration.

The course Director is Mr  Tim Stansfield Leeds Teaching Hospital Trust.

The course is free for Yorkshire and Humber Trainees. Priority will be given to regional trainees. Please make sure you meet the correct grade criteria for each speciality before booking your place. (See course description)

Surgical gowns, over shoes, facemasks and gloves are provided for the lab. If you wish to wear theatre blues please bring your own.

Aims

Background NHS England Yorkshire and Humber region Vascular Surgery Trainee 3 year cycle ISCP teaching restarted in May 2024. The teaching is delivered with a mixture of resource: (1) classroom/ virtual interactive environment distributed at locations across the region and (2) Leeds University located regional CADSIM. The programme is led by the Y&H Vascular Surgery Deputy TPD and the timetable distributed to trainees and STC members. Aims of NHS England Y&H Vascular Registrar Teaching (3 year cycle)

1. To provide a cognitive framework in order to facilitate acquiring the ISCP syllabus knowledge base for vascular surgery

2. To develop the surgical skills required for a day one consultant vascular surgeon NB: Aim 2. Is principally delivered via Vascular CADSIM.

Learning outcomes

Learning Objectives of Vascular CADSIM: Lower Limb At the end of this teaching day delegates should be able to demonstrate:

1. Access and exposures: vessel exposures above the clavicle[1] required by a vascular surgeon: axillary vessels, Brachium vessels, Forearm Vessels

2. Manoeuvres : Brachial embolectomy, clavicular division for vessel access, brachial artery shunt

3. Fistula 1: Brachial Cephalic, Radio Cephalic, single stage BVT

4. Fistula 2: Ax-Ax loop graft, Forearm loop graft, DRIL / RUDI / PAI

[1] There may be scope to dissect above the clavicle depending on the SoS CADSIM programme schedule. This will allow extension of this aim and associated LOs in line with the ISCP syllabus, however, note Vascular CADSIM: neck is scheduled in the 3 yearly cycle.
