Aims | To discuss some of the most common causes of physical disability, how these conditions can impact oral health and the management of dental care. |
Objectives | Present an overview of these conditions and general management, and how these conditions may affect oral health Discuss the management of the patient with a physical disability, including physical access, access to the oral cavity, precautions and issues relating to the provision of dental care, long term planning, polypharmacy and concomitant diagnoses Discuss the use of special equipment |
Learning outcomes | Discuss conditions that result in physical disabilities, their signs, symptoms and general management Understand how these conditions affect oral health and how dental care needs to be tailored to the needs of the patients Understand the challenges for patients with physical disabilities to access dental care and how access can be improved in and around a dental surgery |
