upper and lower arches with 7-7 in the upper arch and in the lower 34567 on both sides will be provided.

Materials required from Practices

  • lab putty
  • number 11 blade disposable scalpels
  • a temp material eg. Protemp/quicktemp
  • selection of burs for the preps - medium (blue band) shoulder, bullet nose, chamfer and short parallel cavity prep bur and round burs for the inlay days.
  • selection of polishing instruments for the slow speed including so flex discs and enhance composite polishing burs.
  • Mirror / probe / magnification.

Aims

This study day will use presentation and hands on techniques to cover the following:-

Explain the rational for restoration of the heavily broken down tooth and options open to the GDP

Provide practical sessions for the delegate to work on the described restorations

Provide discussion of the different types of materials available to construct these restorations

Provide discussion of the problems and selection issues encountered when restoring a compromised tooth.

At the end of the course the participants should:

Understand the options available when restoring a heavily filled or broken down tooth

Be aware of problems encountered with each restoration

Be aware of the materials available

Have practical knowledge of the different preparations available to the GDP
