Aims

Learn how the delivery of dentistry impacts the climate and the environment, and what you can do to reduce that impact.

Objectives

1. To develop an understanding of the health impacts of climate change and the impact that the health sector has on the environment. 2. To introduce Sustainable Healthcare and Sustainable Dentistry 3. To introduce Sustainable Quality Improvement (SusQI) and the ‘triple bottom line

Learning outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to implement a 'triple bottom line' quality improvement project. This includes:

1. Self-directed learning of pre-course material

2. Defining a problem and setting sustainability goals

3. Studying the system and assessing resource use locally

4. Applying the principles of sustainable clinical practice to dentistry

5. Measuring ‘sustainable value’ using a multi-dimensional approach of environmental, social, financial and patient outcomes at the micro and population-level

6. Developing initial ideas for dental sustainability projects that will be presented at the DCT2 ‘Sustainability in the NHS’ presentation day next year.
