Lecturer profileJodie graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2010 and completed her foundation dental training in a dental practice in Rotherham. She then moved to Leeds where she spent twelve months as a senior house officer in Oral and Maxillofacial, in a residential on-call post in a busy regional centre for oncology, trauma and cleft surgery. This was followed by a further six months in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery in Sheffield where she gained the MFDS qualification. A senior house officer post in Special Care Dentistry first sparked her passion for her chosen specialty and led to her role as a dental officer in Derbyshire Salaried dental services where she treated a range of adults with special care needs, anxious children requiring inhalational sedation and males in a category D prison.
Jodie went into specialist training in 2014 and in this role she provides comprehensive care to special care groups in a variety of settings including Rampton high-secure psychiatric hospital, General anaesthetic services in Chesterfield and Derby hospitals and conscious sedation in primary care,

Lecturer nameJenny Harris
Lecturer profileJenny Harris BDS MSc FDSRCS FDS(Paed Dent) qualified at Guy’s Dental Hospital in 1987 and held a variety of community, academic and hospital posts in London, Birmingham and Sheffield. She has been a specialist since 2000 and Consultant in Community Paediatric Dentistry at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, University of Sheffield since 2012.

Inspired by the challenges she herself faced when providing care for vulnerable children, Jenny has since 2004 been actively involved in education, leadership and service development in safeguarding children. She was lead author of the Department of Health/COPDEND resource, Child Protection and the Dental Team, now hosted online by the British Dental Association (BDA), of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry’s policy document on dental neglect and of the BDA’s ‘Was Not Brought’ pathway and toolkit.

In 2018 she received the award of Honorary Member of Council of the NSPCC in recognition of her commitment to promotion of safeguarding practice in dentistry. #CheckInNotCheckUp was devised during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and was first implemented in June 2020 with the help of colleagues in Community & Special Care Dentistry.
