Lecturer nameFrances Hellowell BSc(Hons) Biomedical Sciences, BChD/MChD , MFDS
Lecturer profileI am a Dentist having graduated from Leeds University in 2016 in the first cohort of students to complete the MchD/BchD course. Since qualifying I completed my Dental Foundation Training year in the Midlands before completing a year as a Dental Core Trainee in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Wakefield. I gained my MFDS in 2017 with the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. Following completion of the DCT year I divided my time between general practice in a busy mixed (NHS/Private) clinic in North Yorkshire and the Community Dental Service in Wakefield.
I have always fostered a keen interest in paediatric dentistry. This eventually drove me to fully transition into the Community Service. Within my role as a Dental Officer, I treat adults and children with complex behavioural or medical needs under local anaesthetic, inhalation sedation and general anaesthetic. I have recently been awarded Level 2 accreditation in Paediatric Dentistry after completing a two-year course run by the Yorkshire Deanery.
I have always fostered a keen interest in teaching, having acted as clinical supervisor to JDCFT’s in paediatric dentistry within my role as Dental Officer and completing my PGCert in Medical Education from Stafford University in 2021.
