Lecturer Details: Dental Acupuncture Post Foundation Course

Lecturer nameDr David Johnson BSc (Hons) BDS (Wales), MFDS Rcs (Eng)
Lecturer profileMy current position is to oversee the general dental treatment and education of special needs children and adults within the area of South Wales. Currently I work 5 days a week running Bridgend Community Dental Clinic treating children and adults with special needs. This post involves a full range of dental procedures as well as a wide range of behavioural management techniques including the use of relative analgesia to aid treatment.

Whilst in my current CDS position I was invited to become a part time Honorary Clinical Lecturer in Oral Medicine, to assist with chair side undergraduate teaching. This was partly due to my interest in using acupuncture to treat chronic facial pain and my previous experience as a Senior House Officer within the Department of Oral Medicine, Surgery, and Pathology.

Over the last ten years I have been regularly invited to speak about the role of acupuncture in dentistry to various postgraduate and vocational trainee groups around the UK. In addition, I have been invited to be a guest speaker at the BDA CDS Presidential Scientific Meeting, BDA National Conference in Harrogate, and I was delighted to say that the British Dental Association invited me back to speak as part of a Symposium on Pain Management at their BDA National Conference in Manchester.
