It will discuss the role of the paediatric dentist within the cleft multidisciplinary team and the oral health problems faced by children with a cleft followed by strategies for improving their oral health.

Aims

To improve dentists and dental care professionals' knowledge of cleft lip and palate and the role they can play in caring for this group of children.

Objectives

1. To understand the diagnosis of and clinical pathway for children with cleft lip and/or palate

2. To describe the multidisciplinary team and the role of the paediatric dentist

3. To be aware of the oral health problems for children with cleft lip and/or palate and help to improve dental health and care within primary care

Learning outcomes

Understand the pathways for children with cleft lip and/or palate.

Acknowledge and understand role of the paediatric dentist and the multidisciplinary team in management of patients with cleft lip and/or palate.

Understand the oral health problems for children with cleft lip and/or palate and have knowledge of the methods for improving oral health of these children.
