It is also suitable for anyone wishing to cover the topic in more depth.

Aims

This level 3 safeguarding course aims to enhance existing knowledge, skills and competencies in safeguarding children and adults appropriate to the role of Paediatric Dentists and Dentists/Dental Staff with nominated roles in safeguarding.

Objectives

The course aims to deliver “Safeguarding Children and Adults Level 3 Training” in accordance with national guidance and legislation. This training is intended to enhance competencies previously achieved at Levels 1 and 2.

Learning outcomes

Recognise early indicators/patterns of abuse and neglect, and factors which may impact on the vulnerability of children and adults

Demonstrate increased confidence in; assessment, evaluation of evidence, management of diagnostic uncertainty and risk, decision making, record keeping, information sharing and referral

Provide a professional report/opinion for Strategy Meetings and Case Conferences, and contribute to interagency assessments

Alert Primary Healthcare Team and Universal Services of concerns

Understand roles and responsibilities of agency partners and the importance of communicating and working together to safeguard children and adults

Understand national policy and legislation that supports Safeguarding Children and Adults

Recognise how own beliefs, attitudes, experiences may influence professional involvement in safeguarding work

Appreciate the impact of safeguarding on individual professionals and take steps to provide supervision and support

Quality assure effectiveness of services against national guidelines (Assess how robust internal systems, processes and practices are to keep people safe and safeguard them from abuse?)

Be aware and challenge if necessary organizational cultures that may lead to poor practice in Safeguarding
