Description | The Certificate in Orthodontic Dental Nursing is a post-registration Qualification awarded by the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) aimed at registered dental nurses in specialist practice, This is a blended learning course which combines distance learning, practical teaching and formal assessment. In order to undertake the qualification, a dental nurse must: a) be registered with the General Dental Council b) have at least 6 months experience supporting orthodontic patients c) have support of their employing dentist to act as supervisor and validate the work-place activities for the Record of Competence (ROC) and be able to meet the work-based clinical requirements of the Record of Competence d) be enrolled with a course provider accredited by NEBDN e) be sufficiently fluent in written and spoken English to communicate with patients, their relatives, the dental team and other healthcare professionals in the UK. (GDC Standards for the Dental Team, 2.1.2) An additional fee of £195 is payable to the NEBDN for Registration, Record of Competence and associated exam fees (details provided at induction). |

Aims | To provide candidates with the theoretical training and guidance to attain competence in Orthodontic Dental Nursing. |
Objectives | On completion of the course candidates will be able to: Complete the NEBDN Record of Competence including Practical Competence Assessment Sheets detailing involvement in the care of patients undergoing a range of orthodontic procedures. Complete 2 detailed case studies, one of which includes an interdisciplinary case to fulfil the requirement of the NEBDN Record of Competence. Demonstrate the casting of study models, delivery of oral health education & care of appliances, taking of clinical photographs and carrying out cephalometric tracing, measurement and digitisation. Complete Supplementary Outcomes to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of areas of the syllabus. Demonstrate knowledge of all areas of NEBDN certificate in Orthodontic Nursing syllabus |
