DescriptionThis full day course provides theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for dental nurses or hygienists or therapists to feel confident and competent in their ability to take dental impressions under the prescription of a dentist or CDT. Delegates should be able to provide the name of a supervising mentor willing to provide full support for 10 reflective log sheets undertaken in a clinical setting.

Delegates must be a GDC registrant, have Individual Indemnity Insurance and hold a current CPR / medical emergency CPD certificate.

Aims

This course aims to provide dental care professionals with knowledge and understanding of the principles for dental impression taking. It will provide theoretical knowledge and practical skills to ensure safe practice.

Objectives

The course will:

Describe techniques to ensure a detailed alginate impression is taken

Clarify clinical note taking for recording impressions

Discuss evaluating and grading impressions and reflect on technique to improve practice

Explain methods for managing anxious patients

Describe legislative requirements including H&S, waste management, infection control

By the end of the session you will be able to:

Apply knowledge and understanding to the theory of dental impression taking and progress as a safe beginner to take accurate dental impressions under prescription from dentist or CDT.
