Aims

To discuss partial denture theory with emphasis on: principles of denture design, overdentures, overlay dentures, use of milled crowns, management of free end saddles and briefly rehabilitation of patients with palatal defects.

To discuss complete denture theory with emphasis on: principles of complete denture design, impression techniques, occlusal registration techniques, management of flabby ridges, gagging patients and basic implant retained overdentures.

Objectives

Have a working understanding of partial and complete denture design

Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

  • Appreciate which impression and occlusal registration techniques may be appropriate when managing a removable prosthodontic patient.
  • Understand how to design overlay/overdentures.
  • Understand how to manage a patient with combination syndrome.
  • Be able to rehabilitate a gagging patient with a removable prosthesis.
  • Understand the principles of duplicate and immediate denture prosthodontics.
