Aims

To provide an overview of the provision of inhalation sedation with nitrous oxide and oxygen for dental care in children

Objectives

This half day webinar will update participants on the use of inhalation sedation for children, current guidance, what we should be recording as well as giving participants ideas for audit.

Learning outcomes

By the end of the course, delegates will have:

-Knowledge of the historical background and theoretical basis for the use of nitrous oxide in inhalation sedation

-An understanding of the practical aspects of using nitrous oxide for inhalation sedation, including indications for and contraindications to use

-An update of the current guidelines in conscious sedation for dentistry and an awareness of the practical requirements of these

-Considered clinical governance in relation to the use of nitrous oxide sedation and ideas for audit

-An awareness of the adverse effects of nitrous oxide exposure to patients and the dental team and how to minimise these
