DescriptionThis is an interactive training session designed to give the skills and confidence for the whole dental team to raise the issue of alcohol use with their patients, give very brief advice about the impacts of alcohol on oral health and signpost patients to further advice, support and information. This training has been designed to be used by all members of the dental team and builds upon an e-learning resource designed specifically for the dental team which should be undertaken (45 minutes free online session) before the workshop.

Aims

To enable dental teams to raise the issue of alcohol with their patients

Identify patients at an increased or higher risk due to their alcohol use and signpost to their GP or local alcohol support service (where appropriate).

Objectives

To provide general and dental specific information about alcohol

To introduce the use of an alcohol screening tools e.g. AUDIT C

To give information on how to offer patients very brief advice about alcohol usage.

Learning outcomes

After this course delagates will be able to feel comfortable raising alcohol issues with their patients. To be able to give advice and signpost further care.
