DescriptionThe NEBDN accredited qualification is the Intercollegiate Advisory Committee for Sedation in Dentistry (IACSD) benchmark for Dental Sedation Nurses. The NEBDN syllabus is approved by ISACSD. The Certificate in Dental Sedation Nursing covers inhalation sedation and intravenous sedation and delegates must participate and assist in both types of procedures for this qualification. General Dental Council eCPD Development Outcomes covered by this course: A – Communication skills C – CPD specific for your daily role. D – Professional behaviours.
Additional information

Entry Requirements

You must:

· be registered with the General Dental Council

· be sufficiently fluent in written and spoken English to communicate with patients, their relatives, the dental team and other healthcare professionals in the UK

· only suitable for delegates who assist in routine conscious sedation on a regular basis

· be able to meet the work-based clinical requirements of the Record of Competence

· attendance at all 6 teaching sessions is mandatory

· exam entry documents to be completed within the Tutor specified timeframe for submission to the NEBDN

Record of Competence

You are required to complete a Record of Competence (RoC). - a portfolio of evidence of practical experience in the form of a detailed Record of Competence including:

· the confidence and skills to provide the initial management of a medical emergency

· the ability to effectively monitor sedated patients both clinically and electromechanically.

· to be able to interpret the results and communicate their findings appropriately

· to be able to assist during all aspects of treatment under conscious sedation in dental practice

There are four sections to the Record of Competence:

· Practical Competence Assessment Sheets (PCAS)

· Case Studies

· Directly Observed Clinical Skills (DOCS) Assessments

· Supplementary Outcomes.

NOTE;

Provisional student entry for target exam by 01 April 2020

Exam entry documents to be with NEBDN by 01 July 2020

Failure to complete document submissions within the timeframe will result in non-examination entry.

Examination - 11 September 2020

This is a 90 min written examination composed of two sections:

Part A – 45 multiple choice questions (MCQ)

Part B – 30 extended matching questions (EMQ).

Award of qualification

In order to be awarded this qualification, you must:

complete and satisfy the requirements of the Record of Competence and

pass the examination.
