Aims | To gain greater understanding of the risk factors and medical conditions to enable effective management of a bleeding patient. To gain greater understanding of the impact of bisphosphonates on patients’ general and dental health. |
Objectives | Managing the bleeding patient in practice 1. To be able to identify patients at risk of bleeding problems. 2. To understand the medical conditions which may give rise to bleeding issues in patients receiving dental treatment 3. To identify medications which impact on a patient’s clotting ability. 4. To be able to apply current guidelines to the management of patients at increased risk of bleeding. 5. To assess and manage an abnormal haemorrhage in such patients. A brief guide to bisphosphonates 1. To be able to identify patients receiving bisphosphonate therapy. 2. To understand the impact of bisphosphonate medication on a patient’s general health and their dental health. 3. To be able to implement strategies to manage patients taking bisphosphonates. |
