Aims

This full day course aims to provide knowledge, understanding, and skills to successfully perform the role of the decontamination lead in a Primary Dental Care setting

It will discuss the managerial role of the decontamination lead for Infection Control and highlight Legislative requirements, provide guidance on policy writing, auditing techniques, team training and communication.

Practical issues for working with the HTM 01 05; HTM 01 04; L8; HTM 07 01 and CQC compliance will be discussed in a workshop format.

Objectives

By the end of the session delegates will be able to:

> Understand the requirements of the decontamination lead role and the expectations from external inspectors

> Explain the principles of decontamination and the importance of performing the decontamination process as required by current guidelines

> Explain the guidelines that apply to management of decontamination

> Identify and manage risks associated with decontamination

> Describe the importance of infection prevention and control in relation to decontamination through written protocols

> Understand the function and purpose of audits and possess awareness of how to perform audits for decontamination

> Implement effective means of training and developing staff and be able to monitor compliance with current guidelines
