Aims

To refresh delegates knowledge in the theoretical and practical aspects of using nitrous oxide and oxygen for inhalation sedation in the provision of dental care for children.

Objectives

By the end of the course the delegates will have

  • Knowledge of the historical background for and the theoretical basis for the use of nitrous oxide in inhalation sedation.
  • An understanding of the practical aspects of using nitrous oxide for inhalation sedation including the indications for and contra-indications for use.
  • An awareness of adverse effects of the use of nitrous oxide to the patient and the dental team
  • An update of current guidelines
  • Considered clinical governance in relation to the use of nitrous oxide for inhalation sedation and areas for audit.
