DescriptionAn exciting opportunity to discover a brand new role for dental nurses that has recently been approved by Skills for Health. It fits in the dental career structure at a higher level than a dental nurse but below a dental hygienist, therapist and dentist. About this role. The Oral Health Practitioner will work to the direction of a dentist to perform a range of oral health preventative procedures including: plaque indices and debris scores, apply fluoride varnish, take clinical photographs, take impressions and carry out toothbrushing in a patients mouth. The role will also enable dental nurses to carry out general health screening activities by checking for diabetes and taking blood pressure. Aims of the course

This course is an introduction to the newly approved Oral Health Practitioner role for qualified Dental Nurses.

Delegates will will be given information about the course: entry requirements, duration and commitment.

There will be opportunities during the session for clinical hands on experience in a range of syllabus procedures.

At the end of the course the delegate will be able to:

Describe the newly created role of Dental Nurse Oral Health Practitioner

Recognise individual application requirements for the apprenticeship course

Experience clinical hands on in areas of extended duty roles identified by the General Dental Council
