Clinical cases will be shown to demonstrate the presentation of radiation caries and the management of this condition in both primary and secondary care services.

To provide appropriate knowledge to prevent, diagnose and manage radiation caries within primary care and highlight situations where treatment may be more appropriate in the secondary care.

Objectives

To stress the importance of appropriate caries prevention in advance of radiotherapy

To illustrate the effects of radiotherapy on oral heath through clinical cases

Recommend appropriate caries prevention pre- and post-radiotherapy

Diagnose radiation caries

Construct an appropriate treatment plan for the management of radiation caries and understand when to liaise with secondary care dental services.
