DescriptionDr Welford has completed a research project looking at the use of self help Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) resources in reducing dental anxiety in children aged 8-16 years. Come along to find out her results!

Aims

To understand the principles of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), how this has been incorporated into the “Your Teeth You are in Control” resource and provide an overview of the current research.

Objectives

To describe the principles and models of cognitive behavioural therapy.

To show how dental professionals can use the resource to help children manage their dental anxiety.

To discuss current research on the CBT resource ‘Your Teeth You are in Control’ including its use within the community dental services

Learning outcomes

Understand the basis of CBT, the 5 areas model of CBT and be able to relate this to dental anxiety.

Understand how the CBT resource “Your teeth you are in control” can be used to help children manage their dental anxiety.

Have knowledge of the current evidence base for this CBT resource
