DescriptionThis is an interactive course aimed at clarifying safe practice & decontamination procedures within primary dental care in line with HTM 01-05 (Amended 31st March 2013). Geraldine is GDC Clinical Case Examiner and CQC Dental Specialist Advisor with special interest in infection control and is referred to where practice issues have arisen in decontamination and infection control. She brings to this course her knowledge of compliance with the CQC regarding decontamination in primary care dental practices and secondary care and the group will be able to discuss common lines of questioning. The group will additionally consider infection control complaints handling to expand knowledge and help avoid or solve potential problems arising

Standard 7.3.2 ‘you must update and develop your professional knowledge and skills throughout your working life. You should take part in activities that maintain or develop your knowledge and skills. Your CPD activity should improve your practice.’

Standard 1.5.1 (2013 page 19) ‘you must treat patients in a hygienic and safe environment. You must find out about the laws and regulations which apply to your clinical practice - decontamination.’

Aims

This is an interactive course aimed at clarifying safe practice & decontamination procedures within primary dental care in line with HTM 01-05 (Amended 31st March 2013).

Objectives

Objectives

To give an account of how to implement decontamination procedures in line with HTM 01-05, as amended on 31st March 2013

Discuss diseases relative to dentistry and the importance of minimizing the risks of infection transmission whilst working within primary dental care

Recognize the importance of personal protective equipment and how to implement best practice

Describe the procedures for dental unit water line maintenance and overview management of water systems in line with HTM 01-05, HTM 04-01, ACOP L8 (2013) and the HSE HSG274 Part 2 (2014)

Provide an overview on audit, validation and traceability in relation to infection control and management of dental instruments

Discuss the Health & Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activates) Regulations 2014 and explore how to demonstrate compliance with the regulations at a CQC inspection.
