DescriptionThis course is a competency-based impression taking course for Extended Duty Dental Nurses (EDDN). The Applicant MUST have a GDC registered Dentist who will act as a work-based Mentor. The Mentor will be responsible for signing the record of work-based experience and ensuring that the Applicant is safe to practice. The record of work-based experience may be required to be sent to the course speaker, Kate Rowe BDS for verification.

Aims

Dental Care Professionals are able to take impressions to the prescription of a dentist as long as they are fully trained and competent.

This one day course will provide the theoretical knowledge and practical skills in order for dental nurses to competently take impressions of patients to the prescription of a dentist or clinical dental technician for various restorative procedures including study models, vacuum formed appliances and dentures

Objectives
  • Facilitate patient treatment and care by taking accurate impressions safely and competently.
  • Describe legislative requirements including GDC, Health and Safety, Cross Infection and Waste Management.
  • Know the properties, handling and uses of Alginate and Silicone.
  • Understand the Laboratory Requirements of impressions and how to assess/grade the impressions.
  • Consider potential complications and patient management.
