  • To develop an understanding of dementia, its presentation and progression
  • To understand the impact of dementia on dental health
  • To examine ways of improving oral health for patients with dementia
  • To examine what makes dental care “dementia-friendly”

Consent

  • To discuss the legal aspects of consent
  • To examine factors that can impact upon a patient’s ability to give consent
  • To understand the concept of capacity when gaining consent
  • To understand the impact of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 on the provision of dental treatment.
  • To be able to describe how to make a Best Interest decision and when this would be appropriate.
