Aims

What a delegate can hope to take from the workshop

To understand the relevance of key communication theories

Several communication theories will be introduced and applied to the dental practice. Delegates will begin to understand how and why communication can be successful and what the various barriers to communication are in a dental practice and how they can be overcome.

To be confident and competent in using practical communication skills

Start to apply the theory into practical communication skills. This will be done by the delegates beginning to assess their current communication strengths and weaknesses and then start to look at ways to improve them.

To understand the causes of conflict and how to deal with them

One of the key areas for communication in a practice is in avoiding and, if necessary, dealing with conflict. The causes of this conflict and how to use communication to deal with them is discussed and then planned.

Establish systems and standards to lead and engage the dental team

Best practice for communication in all dental teams is discussed and the implementation of standards is evaluated. The delegates will then start to action plan and put in place their own standards and relevant processes to ensure effective communication at all levels of the practice.
