Level 2 Paediatric Dentistry: Hands-on Advanced Restorative Care: Posterior Composites and Advanced Endodontic Techniques (DWD01JUL22)

AvailabilityCourse has taken place
SubjectPaediatric dentistry
DescriptionThis hands-on clinical course is part of the Level 2 Paediatric Dentistry Programme with seminars and practical sessions on posterior composites and advanced endodontic techniques. The morning session will which will provide an update on the development of direct restorative materials for posterior use including Bulk Fill composites and amalgam alternatives. It will also address the reasons of early failures of resin composite including how to effectively choose and use your light curing unit. Hands-on practical session will be provided to demonstrate how to predictably restore posterior teeth with Bulk Fill composites including use of sectional matrix. The afternoon endodontics session with focus on root canal treatment of anterior teeth with a mature apex, though there will be discussion regarding management of open apices as well. The session will include discussion and practical session with demonstration on the use rotary instrumentation and obturation using thermoplastic techniques.

Important Information for Face to Face Courses

Please ensure you have a suitable face covering following government guidance. If you are exempt from wearing a face covering please notify us as soon as possible.

Please note: A face visor or shield may be worn in addition to a face covering but not instead of one. This is because face visors or shields do not adequately cover the nose and mouth, and do not filter airborne particles.

For delegates attending face to face courses please be advised that your details may be shared with NHS Test and Trace if requested.

Face to face attendees are reminded that:

Should they have symptoms of coronavirus (a high temperature, a new continuous cough or a loss or change to sense of smell or taste), they should not attend an event and let the organisers know by contacting dentaladmin.yh@hee.nhs.uk.

Aims

To provide an update on the development of direct restorative materials suitable for posterior teeth including Bulk Fill composites and amalgam alternatives. The hands-on session will provide tips on how to produce successful posterior restorations with modern bulk fill composites. The course will cover root canal management of anterior teeth using modern rotary instrumentations and thermoplastic obturation techniques.

Objectives
  • To have an update on the development of posterior composites and able to use modern materials to produce restorations with high quality seal and minimal shrinkage stress.
  • Understand the key factors that impact on the success of posterior composite restorations
  • To understand how to effectively clean and shape the root canal systems and be able to use rotary instruments
  • Understand and be able to obturate canals with thermoplastic gutta-percha. Understand the limitations of gutta-percha obturation and indications for apexification techniques.
Learning outcomes
  • Delegates will have an update on direct restorative materials available for posterior restorations and the factors that influence their clinical success.
  • Delegates will also be provided with clinical tips and techniques to help them improve their posterior composite restorations.
  • Delegates will understand how to effectively clean and shape the root canal systems and be able to use rotary instruments
  • Delegates will understand how to obturate canals with thermoplastic gutta-percha and when to consider bio ceramic materials.
