DescriptionThis is an interactive, hands-on day. Initially, theoretical seminars will update your impression-taking knowledge, from material to tray-selection and adaptation, to placement and sustainability consideration, alongside the option of digital impressions. A hands-on clinical session will follow, preparing and seating trays for traditional impressions, plus the opportunity to familiarise yourself to take a digital impression. You can then reflect on your current practise to make any necessary changes.

Delegates must be GDC registered, have Indemnity Insurance and have attended a medical emergency accredited course in the last 2 years. Evidence may be requested.

Aims

The aim of this Course is to provide the clinical dental team with up-to-date theoretical knowledge on current impression techniques, whilst respecting sustainability in dentistry and provide a safe environment to practise and enhance the clinical skills of traditional and digital impression-taking.

Objectives
  • Present an overview of current theoretical knowledge of commonly-used impression materials for edentate and dentate impressions
  • Discuss, demonstrate and supervise impression tray selection, adaptation, placement and material choices for dentate and edentulous impressions
  • Describe the criteria of an acceptable impression
  • Explain and consider some of the environmental impact of dental impressions
  • Introduce, demonstrate and supervise digital impressions
Learning outcomes
  • Apply current knowledge of commonly-used impression materials to make an informed choice in clinical decision-making when taking an impression
  • Perform the clinical task of selecting an impression material, preparing and seating an impression tray with greater confidence
  • Perform a digital impression with more confidence
  • Critique, evaluate and reflect on the clinical acceptability of an impression
  • Identify and assess some of the risks of the environmental impact of dental impressions with a view to reducing that risk
