DescriptionThis half-day course is designed for Specialist Registrars who are, or will be, applying for posts as consultants / fellows and who wish to enhance their interview skills at this level. It addresses all the main stages of the interview process from job search and preparing applications to practical strategies within the interview and subsequent engagement with HR.
Additional information

All course materials will be made available to participants before the course runs. In advance of the session, please have your CV / portfolio etc. accessible so that it might be used during the interview session. Also, please have a copy of a consultant / fellowship post that you have applied for or might apply for. We will have regular breaks to assist concentration levels, and you can maintain your energy levels with a personal supply of food and beverages.

Aims

To raise the level of interviewing skills in order that interview candidates are more prepared and therefore better-abled to represent themselves accurately and favourably.

Objectives

The course is designed to provide information on what the interviewing panel are looking for including motivation, ability and fit. It also systematically proceeds through all the stages of the interview process and provides practice and tips on responding to difficult questions and challenging situations. Numerous details are provided including checklists for the stages of the recruitment and selection process; practice of model approaches for different types of question; a question bank; interviewing; consultant contract etc.

With enhanced preparation and practice the consultant / fellowship candidates will be able to:

· Develop interview skills through practice with colleagues.

· Develop interview skills to respond appropriately to different question types.

· Communicate their match to the person specification criteria.

Learning outcomes

By the end of this seminar, you will:
