DescriptionThis participative 2-Day course covers a wide range of topics to help you improve your communication skills and feel more confident at work. Delegates will have the opportunity to practice and will receive constructive feedback on their communication skills in a friendly and supportive learning environment.
Additional information

Topics covered include: Understanding how communication difficulties arise and how to handle them when they do; Communication models and strategies; Becoming more assertive at work; Communicating effectively with colleagues, patients and relatives; Breaking bad news; Giving constructive feedback and responding positively to critical feedback; Identifying your preferred team role; Understanding conflict resolution styles and how to respond effectively to conflict at work. The course is highly participative and practical.

Before the course you will be asked to complete a short pre-course survey (3 questions) and identify scenarios you would like to practice during the course.

Aims

The overall aim of this course is to help you improve your communication skills at work.

Objectives

By the end of the 2 days participants will have had the opportunity to:

· Identify difficult communication situations and challenges they face communicating at work

· Consider different models and techniques of effective communication

· Identify different ways to communicate assertively

· Practice different communication techniques with other delegates and simulators (patients/carers/colleagues)

· Receive feedback on their performance and communication skills (and give feedback to others)

· Understand team roles and identify their preferred team role

· Think about the way they respond to conflict at work and consider different approaches to these challenging situations

Learning outcomes

As a result of completing this course participants will:

· Develop their reflective techniques to identify learning opportunities and areas for development

· Recognise difficult and challenging situations and how they can respond to them in a more positive, constructive and assertive way

· Understand different models of communication and feedback, and how to apply them at work

· Feel more confident when approaching difficult conversations with colleagues, patients, relatives, etc.

· Improve their verbal and non-verbal communication skills

· Gain insight into their preferred team role and conflict resolution style

· Develop an action plan for on-going development and improvement
