SubjectEducator and Supervisor Development
DescriptionCompassion is central to healthcare, but can be difficult to sustain within the pressures of training and supervision. This interactive session explores sustainable compassion in the context of medical education, including its impact on both doctors in training and educators. Participants will develop strategies to support compassionate practice while maintaining boundaries and protecting wellbeing.
Additional information

This session explores sustainable compassion within medical education, including the emotional demands placed on both doctors in training and educators. We will consider how compassion can be affected by workload, responsibility, repeated exposure to distress and the pressures of supporting others.

The session will focus on how educators can model and support sustainable compassion, including delivering feedback, managing boundaries and maintaining effective working relationships. Practical strategies will be shared to support both educators and those they support in balancing compassion with self-protection.

The session is interactive and reflective in style, using a combination of brief teaching, guided reflection and discussion. It is suitable for all educators, including those supporting doctors in training and those who identify as neurodivergent themselves.
