Lecturer profileAs an experienced clinician, and previously as chair of the local Clinical Ethics Committee, I believe that I have the experience necessary to identify the major themes involved in the teaching of medical ethics to consultants and specialty trainees. In particular, my experience in chairing the Clinical Ethics Committee has helped me to understand the ethical dilemmas faced by clinicians in other specialties. My study of healthcare ethics on my MA course helped me to improve my understanding of the principles of healthcare ethics, and the research for my PhD on Advance Directives enabled me to study an individual area in greater detail. Finally, the very positive feedback provided by Health Education England has encouraged me to develop the course in response to individual comments from those attending.
