DescriptionA Consultation Skills refresher for doctors returning to work in a primary care setting. We will consider the consultation skills used needed in everyday practice. There will then be the opportunity to rehearse these skills in small and supportive groups, with an experienced role player.
Additional information

Dr Liz Moulton MBE is a GP trainer with a lifelong interest in teaching consultation skills. She is the author of several core text books on the consultation including ‘The Naked Consultation’, ‘The Complete MRCGP Casebook’ and ‘What do I say next?’. She is a SPECS tutor for Yorkshire and the Humber Deanery, working with GP registrars who are struggling to pass the SCA exam and also regularly teaches a small group with similar needs at the HOY half day release programme. She also runs nationally recognised courses for GP registrars preparing for their exams. As well as teaching consultation skills and writing books, Liz is also a GP appraiser.

Dr Ngozi Anumba is an experienced GP educator. She is a GP Partner, Trainer and TPD in the GP School. She is also the GP school supported return to training champion. She is passionate about providing bespoke support which aims to equip GP registrars to make a successful return to training following periods of absence.

Target audience

This course is restricted to trainee doctors and dentists who are taking time out of training or who have returned to training within the last 3 months. IMG trainee doctors may also attend within their first 6 months of working within the NHS. (IMG = International Medical Graduate.) Please only book if you meet these criteria.

Aims

Improved confidence in consultation skills for doctors returning to training.

Objectives

A combination of small group discussion and role play opportunities will be used to ensure that doctors develop:

1) Increased confidence in their consultation skills when returning to practice.

2) Skills in managing uncertainty within the consultation.

3) Time management skills within the consultation.
