This 2-day interactive course equips you with practical, evidence-based tools to rebuild confidence, manage stress, navigate difficult consultations, set healthy boundaries, manage empathy and nurture sustainable well-being. You’ll leave with your own bespoke “Return Toolkit” — so you don’t just return, you return ready to thrive. |
| Additional information | Booking courses Please ensure that you check your availability before booking a place and add the booking to your diary / calendar. Please ensure that you also book the relevant study leave in advance with your employer. Please refrain from booking multiple instances of the same course or course type to ensure that places are available to your colleagues. If a course is full, please add yourself to the waiting list and you will receive a notification if a place becomes available. Multiday courses This is a multiday course. The attendance requirements for multiday courses are: You must secure rota coordinator agreement for the time off for all course days before booking and follow the study leave process Attendance at all sessions is required in order to complete the course and be awarded a participation certificate If your availability changes before the course and you know that you will be unable to attend one or more sessions, you must cancel your place as soon as possible If you are absent from day 1 of the course, you will be withdrawn from the remainder of the course Joining Instructions This is a virtual course, the joining instructions for the virtual meeting will be added to the documents section (above) before the course. Please ensure that you are able to access this before the course so that you are ready to join on the day. Booking cancellation Participants must make every effort to attend courses they have booked. | Target audience | This course is restricted to trainee doctors and dentists who are taking time out of training or who have returned to training within the last 3 months. | Aims | To support Doctors who are returning to clinical practice after a career break, sabbatical, parental leave, or reduced work, by building psychological, emotional and practical strength enabling a smooth, confident and sustainable return to work. |
| Objectives | By the end of this two-day course participants will be able to: - Reflect on their personal and professional journey to understand how the break has affected them mentally, emotionally and clinically. - Recognise common challenges faced by returners (e.g., self-doubt, anxiety, boundary uncertainty, workload stress). - Learn and practise evidence-based strategies to manage stress, regulate emotions, and maintain work–life balance. - Rebuild confidence in their clinical identity and develop a resilient mindset - Reintegrate into practice with clarity: define personal values, boundaries, and communication style. - Develop a tailored “Return Toolkit” including self-care habits, boundary-setting plans, and reflective practices - Create a personal action plan for the first 3–6 months back in work, including resilience strategies and support network mapping. |
