Description | This two-session course will improve your awareness of neurodifferences and increase your confidence in supporting neurodivergent postgraduate doctors and dentists in training. It is designed specifically for managers and educational supervisors to support understanding, awareness and inclusion of neurodiversity and explore challenges neurodivergent trainees might encounter. The first session will introduce Neurobox and an overview on the course before focussing on: • What is a Neurodiversity? The language surrounding this • Each Neurotype and associated strengths & challenges • How can neurodivergence affect someone in the workplace? • What are reasonable adjustments? • How can you support postgraduate doctors and dentists in training and your colleagues? The second session will provide a deeper dive into the following topics: • Inclusivity • The Law surrounding disabilities • Reasonable adjustments and how to provide them • Management/supervision challenges that may arise when supporting some with neurodivergence and how they can be managed • How you can create an inclusive training/working environment |

Aims | The aim is to provide you with the knowledge on neurodifferences to support postgraduate doctors and dentists through their training programme and in the clinical environment. |
Objectives | The objectives for this course are: • To understand what a neurodiversity is and how this might effect someone working in a clinical environment. • To explore each neurodiversity in detail, looking at Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, ADHD and Autism. • To recognise what adjustments are available. • To obtain the knowledge to support a postgraduate through their course and into the working clinical environment. • To understand the law around disabilities. • To acquire the knowledge to what is a ‘reasonable’ adjustment. • To explore the challenges that can arise. • To provide the expertise on how to create an inclusive environment. |
Learning outcomes | On completion of the course, you will have: • Detailed knowledge of the neurodifferences • How to support a postgraduate through their course and into the clinical working environment. • The adjustments that might be available to an individual. • The expertise to navigate challenging situations that might arise about neurodifferences and adjustments. • Greater awareness surrounding the Law and disabilities. |
