DescriptionThis course aims to improve your understanding of different neurotypes and increase your confidence in supporting a neurodivergent postgraduate doctor or dentist in training. The course will focus on Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Autism and ADHD, with topics including: • The language associated with neurodiversity and neurodifferences • What is ADHD and what are associated challenges and strengths? • What are dyslexia and dyspraxia and what are associated challenges and strengths? • What is autism and what are associated challenges and strengths? • The Equality Act • What is a reasonable adjustment? • How might you support a trainee or colleague?

Aims

The aim is to provide you with knowledge of neurodifferences to support postgraduate doctors or dentists throughout their training programme and in the clinical environment.

Objectives

The objectives for this course are:

• To understand what a neurodifference is and how this might affect someone working in a clinical environment.

• To provide an overview of common neurodifferences such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia and dyspraxia.

• To recognise what adjustments are available.

• To obtain the knowledge to support postgraduate doctors or dentists throughout their training programme and in the clinical environment.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, you will:

• Have awareness of common neurodifferences

• Be able to effectively support postgraduate doctors or dentists throughout their training programme and in the clinical environment.

• Identify challenges and strengths of common neurodifferences

• Have an awareness of appropriate adjustments for trainees or colleagues with neurodifferences
