Description | The skill of writing an article – and getting it published in a peer-reviewed journal – is highly prized, but rarely taught. This one-day course concentrates on this skill, and in particular on the process of writing. |
Additional information | Participants should come with an idea for an article, and during the day they will work this up in easy stages. This course is for anyone who is writing - or about to write – an article for a peer reviewed journal. It is particularly suitable for those who feel intimidated by those who already have their names on the databases. This course is not suitable for those who have yet to decide on what to write about, who want a course in critical appraisal or ‘scientific English’, or who are on the whole satisfied with the way they write.
Joining Instructions This is a virtual course, the joining instructions for the virtual meeting will be added to the documents section (above) before the course. Please ensure that you are able to access this before the course so that you are ready to join on the day. Booking cancellation Participants must make every effort to attend courses they have booked. If your availability changes after booking, please cancel your place through Maxcourse as soon as possible. This will release the place for colleagues on the waiting list. Aims | This course is suitable for anyone who wants to look at how they write journal articles, and who is ready to start writing one. |
Objectives | The course will show you how to prepare, write and submit an original journal article that has a good chance of being accepted for publication. It will also set you well on the way to doing so. |
Learning outcomes | By the end of the session, participants will… • understand the publications game – and how to be a winner; • make logical and informed decisions on where to send articles; • reduce rewriting in the final stages by early planning; • cut ‘information overload’ by using simple techniques; • make the most of scarce time by writing for 10 minutes a day; • apply simple marketing techniques to increase the chances of a submitted article being looked at favourably. |
