Join us to build confidence, regain control, and return to work with renewed strength and clarity. "
Additional information

We will show you how to:

• Measure your current resilience

• Take a deep dive into the psychology that supports improved mental wellbeing

• Master the core skills required for resilience

• Develop a bespoke toolkit to foster wellbeing and resilience for the rest of your career.

Pre-course work • Identify individual resilience needs using the Resilient Practice Gap Analysis Tool and map relevant strategies.

 

Multiday courses

This is a multiday course. The attendance requirements for multiday courses are:

You must secure rota coordinator agreement for the time off for all course days before booking and follow the study leave process

Attendance at all sessions is required in order to complete the course and be awarded a participation certificate

If your availability changes before the course and you know that you will be unable to attend one or more sessions, you must cancel your place as soon as possible

If you are absent from day 1 of the course, you will be withdrawn from the remainder of the course

Booking cancellation

Participants must make every effort to attend courses they have booked. If your availability changes after booking, please cancel your place through Maxcourse as soon as possible. This will release the place for colleagues on the waiting list.

Target audience

This course is restricted to trainee doctors and dentists who are taking time out of training or who have returned to training within the last 3 months. IMG trainee doctors may also attend within their first 6 months of working within the NHS. (IMG = International Medical Graduate.) Please only book if you meet these criteria.

Aims

Return with Resilience’ aims to equip you with all the tools you need to return to work with confidence, enhanced skills and a resilient mindset.

Objectives

Day 1:

• Gain a deep understanding of the key psychological aspects that build resilience and learn how to apply them in clinical practice.

• Explore the Cognitive Behavioural Cycle to understand the impact of thoughts, emotions, and behaviours on resilience.

• Master self-observation

• Engage in shadow work and reflection, recognising unconscious influences on decision-making and responses.

• Explore archetypal behaviours and how they influence our experience

• Use the Resilient Practice Workbook to evaluate the effects of new resilience strategies in real-world scenarios.

 

Day 2:

• Build a personal Resilience Toolkit including:

o Tools to manage empathy and avoid emotional exhaustion.

o Communication techniques for difficult conversations, breaking bad news.

o Setting boundaries including saying no.

o Breathing exercises to promote calm and focus.

o Meditation and mindfulness for emotional regulation.

o Practical rituals to support resilience in daily practice.

• Apply the tools to real-world situations, including complaints, difficult consultations, and delegates own scenarios.

Learning outcomes

By completing this course, participants will be able to:

1. Identify their individual resilience needs using the Resilient Practice Resilience Gap Analysis Questionnaire.

2. Recognise how their personal conditioning influences their responses in clinical practice.

3. Understand the psychological science behind emotions and reactions.

4. Challenge and reframe negative patterns of thinking and core beliefs.

5. Participate in shadow work and recognise behavioural patterns associated with common archetypes.

6. Employ a variety of powerful communication techniques.

7. Accept responsibility for their own responses in all situations and make conscious choices. 8. Receive and respond to complaints professionally and constructively.

9. Manage empathy effectively, balancing compassion with self-care.

10. Navigate difficult conversations and conflict within medical teams with confidence.

11. Use meditation, breathing exercises, and mindfulness techniques to reduce stress and stay present. 12. Develop healthy rituals and practical strategies to maintain resilience in daily practice.

 

By implementing these skills, participants will experience:
