DescriptionMoving to a new country brings challenges, and adapting to workplace culture is key to success. Through discussions and exercises, this workshop will support IMG’s in developing skills in active listening, assertiveness, teamwork, and handling workplace dynamics.

Workshop Expectations

To get the most from the workshop, you will be asked to prepare a real-world scenario for discussion or role-play. This allows practice in a supportive environment to explore effective strategies and areas for improvement. This is an interactive session focused on communication skills, active participation in discussions and exercises is essential.

Technical Requirements

Where possible, all attendees must have cameras and microphones on to ensure meaningful interaction. On the Day Log in 10 minutes early so we can start promptly. Join from a quiet, private space to fully engage in discussions and activities. If you are more than 30 minutes late without notice, you may not be admitted. Regular breaks will be provided, and the session will conclude at 3:00 PM. If you cannot attend, inform the organisers in advance. We look forward to a great session with you!

Aims

The aim of this workshop is to offer support and guidance to IMG’s and help them develop tools to build productive relationships with colleagues in the high pressure, multi-cultural environment of the NHS.

Objectives

• Support IMGs adapt to workplace culture in the UK healthcare system.

• Build confidence and refine professional communication skills.

• Understand key aspects of working within the British healthcare system.

• Develop essential skills such as active listening, assertiveness, and handling difficult conversations.

• Learn about workplace hierarchy, cultural etiquette, and professional expectations.

• Explore teamwork and effective collaboration in the NHS and other healthcare settings.

• Address challenges related to communication styles, feedback, and workplace dynamics.

• Provide practical strategies for fostering positive relationships with colleagues and patients.

• Create a supportive environment for IMGs to share experiences and ask questions.

• Empower participants to integrate seamlessly into their teams and thrive in their roles.

Learning outcomes

Attendees will gain understanding and learn important techniques that will build confidence in the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse mix of patients and colleagues.

• Tips and techniques to feel and show confidence and assertiveness.
