DescriptionThis immersive one day workshop is designed for senior medical education faculty, including DME’s, HoS, APD’s tutors and TPDs. It aims to enhance your leadership capabilities, improve educational governance, and support effective training delivery. Engage in interactive sessions and your own case studies to address current challenges and elevate your skills in medical education.
Additional information

Participants will gain practical skills in coaching, active listening, and providing constructive feedback. The workshop focuses on using your own challenging scenarios in trainee support as a central learning tool. Through debriefing and sharing experiences with peers, you will acquire actionable strategies to enhance your role as an educational leader and improve training outcomes.

Target audience

This course is only available to senior faculty (eg College Tutors, Education Leads, TPDs, HoS) in the School of Surgery. This day is aimed at senior faculty for Core Surgical Training, ENT, and Paediatric Surgery. Eligible faculty should receive an invitation from the Head of School.

Aims

The primary aim of this workshop is to advance the skills and professional development of senior medical educators.

Objectives

By focusing on leadership in educational settings, effective coaching techniques, and managing complex training scenarios, the workshop seeks to enhance educational governance, improve trainee support, and foster a high-quality learning environment.

· Clarify the roles and responsibilities of senior medical educators,

· Reflect on and address current challenges in medical training delivery.

· Apply coaching techniques to mentor and support both trainers and trainees effectively.

· Develop active listening skills to better understand and respond to learner needs.

· Use your own challenging scenarios for debriefing to gain insights and practical solutions.

· Implement strategies for providing constructive feedback and managing complex performance issues.

· Document and manage support measures for trainees requiring additional assistance.
