All (except GPs) must attend morning AND afternoon session to complete the course.

Afternoon session: Nurses, Pharmacists, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, First Contact Practitioners and other health care professionals seeking to develop their educational supervision skills only.

Participants are encouraged to bring examples of learner portfolios and reflective materials.

Post-course resource pack, including:

• SMART objective templates.
• Problem-based learning scenarios.
• Portfolio guidance and reflective practice tools.

Morning: Intending GP trainers, GPs providing clinical supervision, Nurses, Pharmacists, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, First Contact Practitioners and other health care professionals seeking to develop their educational supervision skills.

Afternoon: Exclusive for Nurses, Pharmacists, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, First Contact Practitioners and other health care professionals seeking advanced problem-solving and learner support techniques.

Mandatory: Allied Health Professional, or Doctor, or Nurse

To develop advanced skills in monitoring learner progress, addressing challenges, and guiding personal and professional development.

Morning Session (All):

• Learn to set and review SMART learning objectives to guide learner progress.
• Explore the use of work-based portfolios and learning logs to track learner progress and competence.
• Identify and support learners in difficulty, applying appropriate intervention strategies.
• Facilitate personal development planning and with a focus on CPD opportunities.

Afternoon Session (Nurses, Pharmacists, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, First Contact Practitioners and other health care professionals seeking to develop their educational supervision skills only): Through problem based learning the following will be practiced:

• Explore strategies for managing new learner expectations.
• Address the needs of learners requiring additional feedback to support progression.
• Identify and respond to difficulties experienced by learners during their placement.
• Assess learner progress and develop future learning strategies.

By the end of Day 2, participants will:

Morning Session (All):

• Create and apply SMART learning objectives tailored to individual learners' progress.
• Utilise portfolios to monitor learner competence and maintain detailed learning logs.
• Recognise signs of learner difficulty and implement suitable intervention strategies to address these challenges.
• Provide effective guidance for personal development planning, including career goals and CPD pathways.

Afternoon Session (Nurses, Pharmacists, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, First Contact Practitioners and other health care professionals seeking to develop their educational supervision skills only):

• Develop structured plans for managing expectations for new learners.
• Deliver targeted feedback to learners at specific points in their placement to address learning needs.
• Identify and address learner difficulties using a problem-solving approach in supervision scenarios.
• Evaluate learner progress effectively and formulate actionable plans for future learning and supervision.
