Aims

This course helps returning trainees transition from life with an ‘independent’ career in medicine to an ‘interdpendent’ career due to the arrive of new children, life changes or increases in care responsibilities.

The course focuses on the work/life challenges that this moment presents, helping health professionals sustain their progress and development throughout this busy season of life, and using revision and exam prep techniques that are the most time-efficient and effective methods for busy professionals to squeeze into their demanding schedules.

Objectives

Course objectives:

  • The challenges of returning to work;
  • The latest research on dual-career couples and practical insights we can use;
  • Models of engagement and stress at work, and how they help us understand our experience of work;
  • The latest research into time poverty and attention;
  • Environmental, contextual, and social factors that affect our focus;
  • The latest learning science and how it applies to trainee medical professionals;
  • Research on behaviour change and how it can help health professionals with their CPD.
Learning outcomes

After the course, delegates will be able to:

  • Have healthier conversations and solo work processes (either with their partner about the new demands of being a dual-career couple, with more fairness and candour or on their own).
  • Get clear about the practical constraints (environmental, time, attention, focus) that limit your ability to do your work and find solutions that work for you.
