Description | This interactive workshop supports IMG’s and concentrates on understanding the British culture and the challenges faced by doctors starting their career. The focus is on building effective relationships with patients. The doctor will learn tips and techniques to successfully navigate a time pressured consultation with confidence. | ||
Additional information | This workshop will focus on communication skills with an emphasis on practical skills, therefore it will be an interactive workshop with an expectation that all delegates get involved. It is a priority of the facilitator to make this a safe, supportive environment for attendees to feel comfortable getting involved and expressing thoughts and concerns. Encouraged interaction will involve role play, asking questions in front of the group or through the chat box, and offering feedback. As this is an interactive workshop it is a requirement that all attendees join the session from a quiet environment where they are able to fully interact and have their cameras on throughout.

Aims | Arriving in the UK from abroad to work within the NHS can be an intimidating experience. Working in an environment that has a different set of expectations due to cultural differences can be isolating and can create all sorts of challenges that are hard to understand and navigate. The aim of this workshop is to offer support and guidance to IMG’s as they navigate the complexities of the NHS and the British culture. We will focus on developing important communication skills including verbal and non-verbal communication. How to build and maintain a good rapport with patients. How to respond to local colloquialisms and how to use the lessons learnt in the workshop to show empathy and have difficult conversations confidently and effectively. | ||
