DescriptionCareer Coaching with Confidence seeks to provide those who have conversations with students doctors and those considering changes in their specialisms. The course is relevant to anyone who helps others make their career choices while developing as a doctor – or even choosing to progress their career through other career options. The half-day online delivery respects that people have different preferences for learning online or in-person. Online provides a more condensed and faster-paced learning provision for those who may prefer this or have relevant previous experience.

Aims

This workshop provides attendees with a range of skills to help them support others to make high quality and informed decisions about their career options and direction.

Objectives

The workshop will give you access and skills in:

  • Challenges within career conversations
  • Defining career conversations
  • Managing expectations and boundaries within career conversations
  • Applying career coaching within career conversations
  • KIPPER model for managing career coaching conversations
  • Introduction to career conversation tools, including: Values Wheel, Priorities Box, Personality Questions, Positive Psychology Questions, BMA Speciality Explorer, NHS Alternative Careers with a Medical Degree, Identity and Enmeshment Questions.
  • Other useful resources for burnout, resilience and neurodiversity
  • Career Conversations Resource Pack
Learning outcomes

By the end of the workshop attendees will be able to:

  • Define a career conversation
  • Identify the boundaries within career conversations
  • Apply a career coaching approach to career conversations
  • Explain the KIPPER model for managing career conversations
  • Identify a range of career conversation tools and how these may be useful in career conversations
  • Consider other factors that may be influencing career conversations and decisions.
  • Begin using the Career Conversation Resource Pack in helping others make high quality and informed decisions about their career options and direction.
