Description | The course is a half day online interactive workshop, led by experienced GP and educator Dr Martin Billington. The time will compromise of brief information-giving talks, small group and pairs work in break out rooms, and wider group discussions. There will be no pressure to disclose personal experiences, but the facilitator will create a safe environment where it is hoped attendees will feel comfortable to share their own stories, certainly within small groups. The session will examine and describe healthy and unhealthy perfectionism traits within healthcare, their benefits and costs and approaches to identifying and addressing the less helpful traits in ourselves. | ||

Aims | To better understand the influence of perfectionist traits within doctors and other healthcare staff | ||
Objectives | 1. Describe the features of perfectionism. 2. Identify why some of the features of this common trait are unhelpful for individuals. 3. Support attendees in examining their own perfectionist characteristics, to identify how these may be influencing them in both positive and negative ways. 4. Describe and discuss how perfectionist traits can negatively affect our interactions with colleagues. 5. Discuss how to find the right balance between ”perfect”, “good enough” and complacency. 6. Direct attendees to further resources and help if appropriate. | ||
Learning outcomes | 1. Better understand the fields of healthy and unhealthy perfectionism 2. Better understand how prominent the less helpful traits are in attendees’ psyche. Better understand how attendees’ perfectionism may have detrimental impacts on relationships with colleagues and teams. | ||
