Description | “Mindfulness at work and in life” is a course designed for those who work in the NHS. Mindfulness is an evidence based intervention which has been shown to help in the management of stress and enhance well-being. Facilitators: Dr Sanjay Suri, Consultant Paediatrician (retired); Ex-Training Programme Director Dr Shubhada Suri, GP and former GP trainer Both are mindfulness teachers, qualified from the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice at Bangor University in Wales Worked in the NHS for almost 30 years each as clinicians and educators Personally benefited from their own practice of mindfulness. Facilitated several introductory and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) 8-week courses over the last 3 years. | ||

Online bookings close 1 week prior to the course date but bookings can be made by emailing england.lsfdcourses.yh@nhs.net You can cancel your place online up to 1 week prior to the course, cancellations within the last week must be sent via email to england.lsfdcourses.yh@nhs.net “Mindfulness at work and in life” is a 1-day experiential course based on the 8 -week evidence-based MBSR course designed and researched by Prof Jon Kabat Zinn at Harvard. The course will cover several important aspects of mindfulness and encourage home practice to be carried out. You will have an online mentor for the intervening 4 weeks to support your mindfulness journey. There will be plenty of opportunity for discussion and linking to the reality of working in the NHS. The course is interactive with group work. We will explore the definition of mindfulness and its rationale. The day consists of meditation practices such as the sitting practice, the body scan and mindful movement. Relevant stress physiology will be discussed. We will touch upon the evidence base, the neuroscience and invite discussion to enhance learning. Mindful communication and the benefits of mindfulness in relationships will be discussed. At the end of the day, key learning points will be drawn out. There will be signposting to various mindfulness resources and tips on how to practice mindfulness at work and in your life. Pre-course information: Please consider the following before applying for the course: · Are there any physical/mental health difficulties that may affect your ability to participate in the course? · Are you currently dealing with any major life issues (e.g. bereavemnent; separation; moving home, etc) ? (You could enrol onto a future course if the time is not right for you) · Who can support and encourage you during and after the course? Please complete the pre-course reflection, which will be for your eyes only. Please put it away and return to this after the course. The course will be delivered via Zoom. Please use a laptop rather than a mobile phone/iPad for the course. Please ensure that you will be warm and comfortable and will not be disturbed Some of the practices are best carried out lying down so we suggest you have a mat/rug and a place to lie down. Please keep a water bottle handy, though you will be able to take a comfort break at any time. You will be given handouts and audio recordings at the end of the day. There will be no need to take notes. Please keep a couple of raisins/berries/grapes handy for a mindfulness practice. Please commit to the full day to give the fullest experience of mindfulness and meditation. At the end of the course, you will be given a certificate of attendance.
