| Description | Compassion is central to healthcare, but can become difficult to sustain under pressure. This interactive session explores the concept of sustainable compassion and the factors that can lead to emotional exhaustion and burnout. Participants will develop an understanding of how to maintain compassionate practice without compromising their own wellbeing, through reflection and practical strategies. |
| Additional information | This session explores the concept of sustainable compassion in healthcare, including the challenges of maintaining empathy and connection in high-pressure training environments. We will consider how factors such as workload, emotional labour, perfectionism and performance pressure can impact compassionate practice and contribute to burnout. The session will introduce practical approaches to maintaining compassion in a sustainable way, including emotional awareness, boundary-setting and self-compassion. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their own experiences and consider strategies that support both patient care and personal wellbeing. The session is interactive and reflective in style, using a combination of brief teaching, guided reflection and discussion. It is suitable for all doctors in training and does not require prior knowledge.
