| Description | Many doctors in training experience a strong link between self-worth and performance, which can contribute to stress and burnout. This interactive session explores how achievement, expectations and training culture can shape self-worth. Participants will develop a better understanding of these patterns and practical strategies to support wellbeing and more sustainable ways of working. |
| Additional information | This session explores the relationship between self-worth, performance and burnout in medical training. We will consider how experiences within education, training and wider culture can lead to a sense of worth being closely tied to achievement, productivity and external validation. The session will examine how this can impact wellbeing, confidence and responses to feedback, and how it may contribute to stress and burnout over time. Practical approaches will be introduced to support a more balanced and sustainable sense of self-worth, alongside strategies to reduce pressure and improve wellbeing. The session is interactive and reflective in style, using a combination of brief teaching, guided reflection and discussion. It is suitable for all doctors in training and does not require prior knowledge.
