| Description | This participative 2-day course covers a wide range of topics to help you improve your communication skills and feel more confident at work. You will have the opportunity to practice and will receive constructive feedback on your communication skills in a friendly and supportive learning environment. |
| Additional information | Topics covered include: Understanding how communication difficulties arise and how to handle them when they do; Communication models and strategies; Becoming more assertive at work; Communicating effectively with colleagues, patients and relatives; Breaking bad news; Giving constructive feedback and responding positively to critical feedback; Identifying your preferred team role; Understanding conflict resolution styles and how to respond effectively to conflict at work. The course is highly participative and practical. Before the course you will be asked to identify scenarios you would like to discuss and practice during the course. Booking courses Please ensure that you check your availability before booking a place and add the booking to your diary / calendar. Please ensure that you also book the relevant study leave in advance with your employer. Please refrain from booking multiple instances of the same course or course type to ensure that places are available to your colleagues. If a course is full, please add yourself to the waiting list and you will receive a notification if a place becomes available. Multiday courses This is a multiday course. The attendance requirements for multiday courses are: You must secure rota coordinator agreement for the time off for all course days before booking and follow the study leave process Attendance at all sessions is required in order to complete the course and be awarded a participation certificate If your availability changes before the course and you know that you will be unable to attend one or more sessions, you must cancel your place as soon as possible If you are absent from day 1 of the course, you will be withdrawn from the remainder of the course Joining Instructions This is a virtual course, the joining instructions for the virtual meeting will be added to the documents section (above) before the course. Please ensure that you are able to access this before the course so that you are ready to join on the day. Booking cancellation Participants must make every effort to attend courses they have booked. If your availability changes after booking, please cancel your place through Maxcourse as soon as possible. This will release the place for colleagues on the waiting list. | Objectives | By the end of the 2 days you will have had the opportunity to: • Identify difficult communication situations and challenges you face communicating at work • Consider different models and techniques of effective communication • Identify different ways to communicate assertively • Practice different communication techniques with other delegates and simulators (patients/carers/colleagues) • Receive feedback on your performance and communication skills (and give feedback to others) • Understand team roles and identify your preferred team role • Think about the way you respond to conflict at work and consider different approaches to these challenging situations |
