| Description | The course is a full day online interactive workshop, led by experienced GP and educator Dr Martin Billington. The session will examine and describe healthy and unhealthy perfectionism traits within healthcare, their benefits and costs and approaches to identifying and addressing the less helpful traits in ourselves. The course will introduce and practice CBT techniques which are known to help individuals address the unhelpful aspects of perfectionism. |

| Target audience | This course is restricted to trainee doctors and dentists who are taking time out of training or who have returned to training within the last 3 months. IMG trainee doctors may also attend within their first 6 months of working within the NHS. (IMG = International Medical Graduate.) Please only book if you meet these criteria. | Aims | To better understand the influence of perfectionist traits within doctors and other healthcare staff |
| Objectives | 1. Describe the features of perfectionism. 2. Identify why some of the features of this common trait are unhelpful for individuals. 3. Support attendees in examining their own perfectionist characteristics, to identify how these may be influencing them in both positive and negative ways. 4. Describe and discuss how perfectionist traits can negatively affect our interactions with colleagues. 5. Discuss how to find the right balance between ”perfect”, “good enough” and complacency. 6. Direct attendees to further resources and help if appropriate. |
